Creative Technologist


Ideas are the lifeblood of the agency. The role of the Creative Technologist is to combine an understanding of people with a playful exploration of technology to develop new ideas to connect people and brands and transform these ideas into highly resolved digital prototypes, products and installations. You will be instrumental in helping to deliver against Uniform’s commercial strategy by supporting the acquisition of new clients. You will identify and define insights, research how new technology can be exploited and develop prototypes and ideas which get us recognised by potential new global brand clients.


The primary responsibilities of the Creative Technologist are outlined in the key areas below:

Research & Insight (30%)
  • To research to identify and understand the relevant industry and sector insights
  • To research and keep abreast of new technologies and experience design and research methods
  • To build prototypes and demonstrators that solve customer problems
  • To assist in developing and embedding R&D infrastructure and processes
  • To present to both internal and external audiences to help educate, inspire and provide thought leadership on technology and experience design
  • To provide thought leadership and creative content for use in marketing campaigns and pitches
  • To work with teams to embed new knowledge within client proposals and projects
Creative / Delivery (70%)
  • To support the senior members of the team in managing the delivery of projects, from enquiry to closure
  • To take on board direction and instruction throughout the life of a project
  • To contribute creatively to all aspects of our design process, producing high-quality work which reflects our process and philosophy
  • To contribute to internal creative sessions
  • To provide an inspirational contribution in writing and visual content to our website
  • To present internally on any assigned Uniform projects
  • To develop and deliver presentations, presenting own creative work, under close supervision
  • To produce creative briefs and provide artwork, detailed drawings, 3D models, technical specification, code and creative direction to external suppliers, such as photographers, illustrators, copywriters, freelancers and manufacturers
  • To plan and write production specs
  • To project manage the production of work
  • To record and document all critical client/project items in Workbook/public email folders
  • To report any concerns about the delivery of work to their Line Manager and/or Head of Operations
  • To understand and follow Uniform’s working practices


The Creative Technologist is expected to have the following skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Previous and successful experience in a similar level creative role
  • Some ad agency and/or design agency experience
  • An appreciation of, and a flair for, design, user experience and playful prototyping
  • A portfolio demonstrating a diverse range of work and clients
  • The ability to visualise and articulate an idea
  • The ability to rapidly create proof-of-concept experience prototypes and technology demonstrators
  • Advanced knowledge of the hardware and software tools required for sketching, prototyping and delivering robust physical digital interactions (this might include connected hardware prototyping platforms such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Particle, and creative coding frameworks such as Processing, P5.js, three.js, OpenFrameworks) )
  • Able to demonstrate a good level of design and creativity in their work
  • Able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of design specific production processes and procedures
  • A broad interest in new technology
Some experience of the following is desired:
  • Using the Design Sprint methodology
  • Developing for mobile and multi-touch platforms, including iOS and Android
  • Using back-end technologies such as Node.js, Python, PHP and database programs such as MySQL, MongoDB
  • Using modern front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript
  • Using software versioning system Git
  • Graduate level preferred
  • A good knowledge of 3D / product design and manufacture
  • A good knowledge of CAD for manufacture and visualisation
